I have always wanted a farmhouse dining room. When we moved into this rental home last year I began to get a vision for how wanted it to look. First, I knew I wanted Modern farmhouse style and I wanted a black hutch. Secondly, I knew I didn’t have the money to buy brand new furniture.
We have owned our dining room table for 10 years now and the dark cherry color was not going to fit with a farmhouse dining room. Since I couldn’t afford a new table and I knew that it didn’t fit the farmhouse style, my next option was to re-do it. My husband was skeptical about me redoing the table as I had never redone something that large, only smaller pieces. However, he finally relented and let me take a go at it.
I stripped and sanded the table and refinished in a weather gray stay for a modern farmhouse look. The hutch and chairs are painted in black chalk to tie in with each other.
The hutch is the perfect size for the height of the ceiling and painting it black gave it more of a modern look while keeping some of that farmhouse appeal.
I tried to keep a good mix of farmhouse and modern styled accents within the decor.
There are so many other things that I would love to do to this room but for now I am enjoying the change.
